H&M MATERNITY SWIMWEAR PROJECT

University collaboration project with H&M to design a range of multifunctional, on-trend swimwear for a mother to be. Recognized as a runner-up for two convertible swimwear designs able to grow and retract with the wearer before, during and after pregnancy/nursing.

RANGE DEVELOPMENT

I combined S/S 18 swimwear trends with materials and design details that allowed the wearer to adjust her swimsuit to fit her as needed. These design details included adjustable ties, lace-up strapping and smocked fabric. Of the designs put forward, 2 were selected to proceed for H&M's design team to review.

FINAL DESIGNS

The first selected design, an adjustable tropical one piece, was created in lycra featuring my own custom print for the project. The ties at the bust and waist allowed the wearer to adjust the swimsuit 5+ ways in order to allow for a growing belly & bust. Also, the two cutouts at the side front waist allowed for easy, discreet nursing without having to remove the full top of the one piece.

The second design was a red bikini that, due to its wrap-around style, was also able to accommodate both a pre-pregnancy body and a fully pregnant tummy. Plus, underneath the ruffle featured a hidden nursing flap to allow for discreet breastfeeding.
